Gem Mining
Gem Mining NC is one of Western North Carolina’s favorite
attractions especially in the area of Spruce Pine. The Learning
Channel’s (TLC) popular show Find Cash & Treasure visited some
local Spruce Pine Gem Mines, which increased the popularity of
Gemstone Hunting in North Carolina Mountains. There is an annual
Mineral and Gem Festival in Spruce Pine NC that attracts
thousands of visitors from around the region. Spruce Pine North
Carolina is recognized internationally as the Gem and Mineral
Capital of North America. If you are looking for a fun filled

Emerald Village
Take the family and try your luck as the miners did in the 1800s
at Emerald Village, located in Little Switzerland. Experience
three original Gem Mining NC mines. The Bon Amie Mine is an
underground, ‘hidden’ mine with historical displays and a
beautiful waterfall. Visitors can also visit Big Deal Mine and
Gemstone Mine and use authentic mining equipment while mining
for gemstones in the fresh water flume.
North
Carolina Minerals Museum
Another popular Gem Mining NC attraction is the North Carolina
Minerals Museum, located directly on the Parkway at Milepost
331, the intersection of the Blue Ridge Parkway and North
Carolina Highway 226. The North Carolina Minerals Museum is a
great place for families! View gems of North Carolina and learn
about the importance of mining in High Country by visiting the
Museum of NC Minerals in Little Switzerland NC.
Gem Mountain
Gem Mountain is located on Hwy 226 in Spruce Pine and offers
Gemstone Hunting in North Carolina Mountains just around the
corner from Bear Den Campground. Gem Mountain guarantees you
will find valuable gems, inspects your stones free of charge,
and has gem cutters on hand to turn your finds into jewelry! You
can expect to find Crabtree emerald, Wiseman and Brushy Creek
aquamarine, moonstones, garnet, citrine, amethyst, ruby, and
sapphire at GemMountain. Like Emerald Village, Gem Mountain has
a flume mine.
One of the most popular Gem Mining in North Carolina attractions
is the Brushy Creek Aquamarine Mine. Gem Mountain welcomes
families, individuals and groups of all sizes to for mine
aquamarine. Transportation, guide and equipments are provided
thought the activity is a very popular activity so reservations
are required. Tours leave at 10 am and return around 2 pm.
