Pisgah National Forest
Pisgah National Forest has been nicknamed, “the land of waterfalls” and it’s true; you can find breathtaking NC Waterfalls throughout the recreation areas of the Pisgah National Forest surrounding Bear Den Campground.

The Lost Cove and Wilson Creek Wilderness Areas are home to some of the best Waterfalls in Blue Ridge Mtns. in NC. Gragg Prong Falls is accessed off of the Lost Cove Creek/Gragg Prong Trail. Featuring many swimming holes and the 100 foot high Gragg Prong falls, you can access this area by taking the Blue Ridge Parkway to SR 1511 which becomes FR 981, drive 4.9 miles to trail head. Little Lost Cove Creek Falls is also in this area, with 80 foot falls, off of the Hunt-Fish Falls Trail, located 6.25 miles down FR 464, from SR 1518 off the Parkway, on the opposite ridge of the Lost Cove Wilderness Area. Also on the Hunt-Fish Falls Trail is Hunt-Fish Falls, a 16 foot drop with pools and sunbathing areas that are very popular in the summer.

North Harper Creek Falls is a long slide with a 35 foot drop at the end into a large pool accessed by taking FR 58 for .25 miles, off of FR 464. South Harper Creek Falls is over 200 feet high and is also on Harper Creek Trail but access is 4 miles down FR 58.

Upper Creek Falls is located in the adjoining Wilson Creek Wilderness area 10.75 miles south of Blue Ridge Parkway on NC 181, left on FR 982, left on FR 197. Steel Creek Falls is off FR 228 in the same area, and Burnthouse Branch Falls.

The Lower Falls is viewed from the Linville Gorge Trail.
